Resolve To Be Realistic This Year

This article is written for and published on I AM THAT GIRL

For many of us, the last two weeks have been filled with loved ones, holiday cheer, and a whole lot of indulgent food. It can make anyone feel as though the phrase, ’tis the season to be jolly, doesn’t just apply to Santa. Our holiday traditions are often to overindulge in luxurious and high-calorie foods, followed by taking drastic measures to lose weight come January.

Our resolutions are often unattainable goals such as “No carbs for January,” “Hit the gym at least two hours a day” or other extreme methods as we attempt to rebound from the indulgent ways of the holidays. Beginning your new year this way is unhealthy and unrealistic, though. So this year, I challenge you to be that girl who chooses to gain healthy habits instead of restrictive ones by adding good habits into your daily routine to make positive changes. Try to set a different kind of standard for your 2013 and rise above traditional resolutions. Here are some great habits to try.

Enjoy a green smoothie with breakfast.

Recipe:
1/2 cup frozen berries
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
1/2 a banana or avocado for creaminess
A handful of greens (spinach, kale or arugula)
Top with water or almond milk
Blend and enjoy!

Build a clean meal plan.

Try to stick to foods directly from nature. Choosing whole, natural foods instead of man-made items can make huge changes to your appearance and health.

Practice daily exercise doing something you love.

Do not commit to an exercise routine you don’t enjoy because you won’t do it! Instead, start slow and take a walk outdoors or sign up for a yoga class.

Always carry a 64-ounce jug of water.

Make sure you are getting in the habit of drinking your eight glasses daily. Carrying a jug is a great way to remind you because it’s always visible. Add lemon for extra detoxifying and alkaline bonuses.

If you start your year out fresh with a mindset free of vanity and aggressive or unattainable goals, you’ll see how much easier those resolutions are to achieve. When you are in a regular health routine, your mind is clearer and weight loss happens naturally. So, make this year one of healthy habits and attainable goals. You really will be amazed at just how much you can accomplish.
